Are Scentia fragrance oils phthalate-free?

Yes. Every Scentia fragrance oil is formulated without phthalates.

Phthalates are used in some fragrance products as solvents and fixatives — they help scent dissolve evenly and last longer. The one most relevant to fragrance is diethyl phthalate. Because they appear on labels under the blanket term "fragrance," shoppers can't identify them from packaging. Scentia oils are made without them.

What else are Scentia oils free from?

Parabens and petroleum-derived ingredients, alongside phthalates.

They also contain no carcinogens as defined by the National Toxicology Program or the International Agency for Research on Cancer, and they meet the VOC guidelines set by the California Air Resources Board — the strictest state standard in the US for airborne emissions from consumer products.

Where are Scentia fragrance oils made?

In the United States. Our fragrance oils are blended and hand-poured at our facility in Miami, Florida, and every order ships from Miami.

Our diffusers — the Scentia Max, Pod, MiniPod and Casa — are designed in the USA and built to US engineering specifications. The oils are the part manufactured here.

Are Scentia fragrance oils safe for pets?

Yes. Scentia fragrance oils are safe to use in homes with pets.

The distinction that matters is between fragrance oils and essential oils. Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts, and several common ones — tea tree, eucalyptus, pine, citrus, peppermint — can be harmful to cats and dogs. Scentia oils are perfumer-formulated fragrance oils, not concentrated botanical extracts. Our cold-air diffusers also disperse a dry mist without heat or water, so nothing settles on floors or surfaces where pets walk.

Are Scentia oils vegan and cruelty-free?

Yes to both. Scentia fragrance oils contain no animal-derived ingredients and are not tested on animals.

What do IFRA and RIFM compliance actually mean?

IFRA is the International Fragrance Association, which publishes safety standards governing which fragrance materials can be used and at what concentrations. RIFM — the Research Institute for Fragrance Materials — is the scientific body that generates the safety data those standards rest on.

Compliance means each formulation has been assessed against independent benchmarks for its intended use: ambient home scenting through a diffuser. Unlike marketing terms, these are externally defined, which is why they're worth looking for on any home fragrance product.

How do fragrance oils compare to essential oils for home scenting?

Fragrance oils are formulated for scent performance; essential oils are extracted for aromatherapy.

For scenting a room, fragrance oils hold their character longer, throw further, and stay consistent between batches. Essential oils shift with each harvest and fade faster in open air. Fragrance oils also allow layered, multi-note compositions that don't exist as any single plant extract — the kind used in hotel and spa environments.

What sizes do Scentia fragrance oils come in?

Four: 20ml, 50ml, 120ml and 500ml.

The 20ml is for sampling and appears in our sample sets. The 50ml suits a single room. The 120ml is the size most brands skip — enough for a scent you've settled on, without committing to a large bottle. The 500ml is for whole-home or commercial use. See how long fragrance oils last for guidance.
